"Passed in 1975, Oregon's Percent for Art legislation mandates that 1% of the direct construction funds of new or remodeled state buildings with construction budgets of $100,000 or more be set aside for the acquisition of art work. The Oregon Arts Commission oversees the Program and maintains archives of slides, photographs and related documentation for the works of art selected. Encompassing over a 30-year period, the database offers access to over 5200 items. The collection offers glimpses of 1545 unique artwork creations, visual narratives of the creative process, and documentation."

Pinterest is a visual discovery tool that people use to collect ideas for their different projects and interests. People create and share collections (called "boards") of visual bookmarks (called "Pins") that they use to do things like plan trips and projects, organize events or save articles and recipes.

it is a good way to understand the visual art and by the same way i think we can get a lot by visual discovery

OCCA, the Regional Arts Council for the Oregon coast, invites mid-career visual artists from Curry, Coos, Lincoln, Tillamook, Clatsop and the coastal school districts of Douglas and Lane counties to submit proposals for a two month show in the Coastal Oregon Visual Artists Showcase at the Newport Visual Arts Center. OCCA will help each artist create a video about them and their art that will be shown on a touch screen computer next to the Showcase and become part of the Coastal Artists Video Archive.

Visualizing the Sound? what? I thought this post is very interesting. Sound itself can be an "art" as music (for example), but I have never thought sound can be a form of art when visualized.

It's incredible what the camera has the ability to capture. I think this is a great example of how science and art can overlap.

I have not been to the fair but would love to go sometime, from what I have read from the comments and heard form the community it is an amazing experience.

I can't wait and see the world class entertainers and performers, hand craft artisans and gourmet food creators at this amazing festival.

Flag The Photo Independent Art Fair debuts this year, occupying Raleigh Studios as a kind of unofficial neighbor/partner to Paris Photo L.A., which is happening the same weekend at nearby Paramount Studios. But Photo Independent is far more than a shadow fair. Conceived as an artist-centered counterpart, it's dedicated to working directly with photographers who wish to present their work in a more in-depth context. While the program is international, expect a robust presence of locally based artists, many of whom, as the title implies, are operating independently from the gallery system, embracing the opportunity to take their case straight to the visually curious public. It's Hollywood, after all, a place where everyone dreams of being discovered..

Forward-looking organizers have turned to thinking inside the box for a new way to promote visual artists. Some of the artists, meanwhile, are thinking outside the box to produce 50 small works each. Modeled after community-supported agriculture programs in which participants buy shares in a farm and later receive boxes of produce, community-supported arts initiatives have sprouted on both sides of the river.

I saw this website earlier in the year, but remembered it and wanted to share it with the class. Bryan Saunders decided one day that he wanted to create at least one self portrait everyday for the rest of his life, and so far he has completed over 8,000 of them. On his website he has created six different sections for his portraits based on similar themes, so pick a theme and prepare to be wow-ed.
